That regime is now on everyone’s mind as Israel and the United States strike Iranian military assets, missiles and nuclear facilities. But Iran’s response is never limited to the battlefield. It lashes out asymmetrically — through terrorism, proxies, intimidation and soft targets.

That includes the West.

Jewish institutions in Europe and North America have been attacked. Synagogues in Canada have been shot at. A U.S. consulate was targeted. And yet even now, Canada’s political class cannot bring itself to speak clearly about what Iran is — or what it is doing here.

Take Mark Carney.

It has now come out that a Canadian military installation was attacked by Iran two weeks ago. Thankfully, no Canadians were hurt. But Carney kept it quiet. And when finally asked about it, his answer was not outrage, not retaliation, not even a serious condemnation. His answer was that Canada would not take part in “offensive actions.”

Offensive actions?

Canada was attacked.

Retaliating against an attack is not “offensive.” Keeping it secret and then scolding reporters for asking about it is not leadership. It is weakness.

And Carney is not alone.

Gregor Robertson, now a federal Liberal, managed to invoke the war with Iran not to condemn terrorism, not to denounce the regime, but to explain away Canada’s housing crisis. Apparently Iran is now to blame for home prices too.

It was absurd. It made no sense. But it revealed something important: to these people, Iran is not chiefly a terror state. It is a political talking point, a prop to excuse their domestic failures.

Evan Solomon was no better. More vague talking points. More mush. More attempts to fold Iran into a generic Liberal message about affordability and “plans.” Not a word of seriousness about the regime itself, or the fact that Iran has agents operating in Canada.

Then there is Doug Ford.

Back in 2018, Ford said he would not tolerate Al-Quds Day in Ontario — the annual hate march created by the ayatollahs to glorify the destruction of Israel and spread anti-Jewish hatred in the West.

And yet for eight years, he tolerated it.

Only now, on the eve of this year’s march, did Ford suddenly announce he was seeking an injunction to stop it. Not months ago. Not weeks ago. Not even a few days ago.

The day before.

It was completely unserious.

Any court application launched at the last minute was almost certain to fail on timing alone. Ford knew about these annual marches for years. He did nothing. And then, with cameras rolling and the event already imminent, he decided to perform toughness.

The police are unserious. The Ontario government is unserious. The federal government is unserious. And in a country this full of Iranian regime sympathizers and agents, that is becoming dangerous.

Canada now has leaders who cannot even say plainly that Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, that it has attacked Canadians, and that its supporters openly organize in this country.

That is what they really think about Iran.

They think it can be managed. Delayed. Spun. Used. Soft-pedalled. Folded into some other message.

They do not treat it as the threat it is.

And that may be the most dangerous thing of all.

More outrageous still is the Liberals’ ongoing attempt to blame Stephen Harper for current failures — even though his government ended eleven years ago. That argument has long since passed from implausible into absurd.

One of the worst holdovers is Marc Miller. It is surprising he remains in cabinet at all, given that his chief qualification appears to have been his personal friendship with Justin Trudeau — including serving as a member of Trudeau’s wedding party. That relationship, rather than any demonstrated competence, explains his rise and longevity in power.

Today, Miller holds the title of Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture — a disturbing mandate in itself. A minister in charge of defining “identity” should concern anyone who believes such things emerge organically from history, culture, and shared experience, not government decree. The irony is that the same Liberal Party once described Canada as a “post-national” country — more a hotel than a homeland.

Miller previously served as Minister of Immigration, where he oversaw a period of reckless and historically unprecedented mass immigration that did profound damage to social trust, public services, and national cohesion. This is the same government that removed Sir John A. Macdonald from the ten-dollar bill, rewrote the national anthem, tore down statues, and casually accused Canada of committing genocide. It is difficult to take lectures on national identity seriously from officials who have spent years dismantling it.

Against that backdrop, Miller recently testified before a parliamentary committee and was questioned by Conservative MP Rachael Thomas about “social cohesion.” The question was straightforward and reasonable. In other countries, “social cohesion” has become a euphemism for enforced silence: in China, obedience; in the United Kingdom, avoiding discussion of politically inconvenient crimes for fear of being labelled Islamophobic. What, exactly, does it mean in Canada?

Miller’s answer did little to clarify matters. He warned of “intense disinformation” and claimed social cohesion is weakened when “falsities are propagated through media sources both legitimate and illegitimate.”

That raises an obvious question: who decides which media sources are “illegitimate”?

Canadians were recently told, incorrectly and repeatedly, that a mass murderer was female — even described as “a female in a dress” in emergency alerts. This misinformation was amplified by police, politicians, and much of the mainstream media, including the CBC. The state broadcaster went so far as to emphasize pronouns and refer to the killer by first name, as though discussing a personal acquaintance.

Was that disinformation? Or, in Marc Miller’s framework, was it “social cohesion” — the deliberate suppression of uncomfortable facts in the name of public calm?

More troubling still is Miller’s assertion that a strong, dominant CBC is essential to Canadian democracy. He describes the broadcaster as independent, despite its consistent alignment with Liberal positions on everything from climate policy to Donald Trump to gender ideology. On no major cultural or political issue does the CBC meaningfully dissent from the governing party that funds it.

This is the practical reality of government-subsidized media. As one Liberal MP bluntly told a National Post reporter on X:

“Your paper wouldn’t be in business were it not for the subsidies that the government that you hate put in place — the same subsidies your Trump-adjacent foreign hedge fund owners gladly take to pay your salary.”

That is not independence. That is power reminding journalists who pays the bills.

This authoritarian instinct is familiar. It echoes Justin Trudeau’s own worldview — that there is a single, approved truth, known by the governing class, and that dissent is illegitimate. Trudeau has said as much openly:

“They don’t believe in science or progress and are very often misogynistic and racist… Do we tolerate these people?”

Those words were not rhetorical. The Trudeau government arrested peaceful protesters, froze hundreds of bank accounts, and punished citizens for embarrassing the regime.

With new censorship laws now advancing, there is every reason to believe the same logic will be extended further. Independent media coverage of the recent transgender mass murder will almost certainly be cited as justification for additional controls on speech and journalism.

Ezra reacts to Mark Carney's speech and then goes behind the scenes on his encounter with Justin Trudeau.

While roaming the streets of Davos, Ezra and the Rebel News team unexpectedly ran into Justin Trudeau, casually strolling the promenade alongside pop star Katy Perry. In Switzerland, there were no police cordons, no intimidation, and no arrests for asking questions — a stark contrast to how Rebel News journalists are treated for doing the same thing back home in Canada.

Ezra breaks down the uncomfortable truth: Canadian police are routinely used to shield politicians from accountability, while in Davos, even with armed police and military everywhere, journalists are free to ask questions without interference.

But the real bombshell of the night comes from Mark Carney.

Fresh off a globe-trotting tour that included Communist China, Carney takes the Davos stage to declare that the post-World War II, rules-based international order is over. His solution? A realignment away from the United States — and toward China.

Ezra dismantles Carney’s speech piece by piece, exposing how polished, MBA-speak can mask deeply radical ideas. Carney argues that “middle powers” like Canada should band together — not against authoritarian regimes — but against America. In practice, that means weakening our largest trading relationship, abandoning military reality, and embracing Chinese economic dominance, all while claiming it will somehow help Canadian workers.

Ezra explains why this vision isn’t just naive — it’s dangerous.

Canada sends roughly 80% of its exports to the United States. Our airspace is defended by American fighter jets. Our economy, security, and geography are inseparable from our southern neighbour. Pretending otherwise may earn applause in Davos, but it collapses under real-world scrutiny.

And yet, the Davos crowd loved it.

Why? Because Carney is exactly what this conference rewards: a globe-trotting technocrat with multiple passports, reflexive hostility toward Donald Trump, and an instinctive sympathy for global governance over national sovereignty.
