SHEILA GUNN REID | Outgoing Premier Jason Kenney's long goodbye is interfering with the race to replace him
August 17th, 2022 | 29 mins 36 secs
alberta, canada, conservative, culture, ezra levant, news, politics, pop culture, rebel, trudeau, trump
Though Kenney has said that he would not endorse anyone to be his successor, he has spared no criticism for the apparent front-runner Danielle Smith for a policy that has become the cornerstone of her platform.
Smith has said she will introduce the Alberta Sovereignty Act if she wins the leadership of the United Conservative Party this fall. According to Smith, the law will give Alberta the power to ignore federal laws and court rulings deemed not in the province’s interest.
Legal scholars who slept through the last two years of unconstitutional rules and regulations imposed in the name of public safety are now calling Smith's proposal “illegal,” “unenforceable,” and disrespectful to the rule of law.
And Kenney called it “nuts” and that even if the legislature passed the law, the lieutenant-governor would refuse to give it royal assent and Alberta would become a “laughing stock.”
Who asked him? And since when does Kenney care about what's constitutional after 30 months of arrests of peaceful protesters, incarcerations of pastors and businessmen and seizures of diners and churches as part of his COVID enforcement strategy?
Joining me tonight to discuss Kenney sticking his nose into the middle of the race to replace him, the federal Conservative leadership race, and Trudeau's latest gun grab is Cory Morgan of the Western Standard.

SHEILA GUNN REID | Michelle Stirling on the green war on cities
July 27th, 2022 | 45 mins 46 secs
alberta, canada, conservative, culture, ezra levant, news, politics, pop culture, rebel, trudeau, trump
Why does your mayor want to tell you how many calories you can consume and where those calories should come from?
An initiative called C40 Cities involves mayors of big cities all across the world signing on to a climate scheme to “confront the climate crisis and create a future where everyone can thrive.” It touches every aspect of a resident's life, from nutrition, and transportation, to house size.
The tentacles of the green movement are fully entangled in municipal governments, and it shows. Calgary has recently signed on to an $87-billion climate plan. Ottawa's climate plan is more than $60-billion. No one campaigned on these plans, but now voters have to pay for them.
And outside the cities, the government is the sharp end of the spear in the green war on modern agriculture. Trudeau announced this week that nitrogen caps slapped on Dutch farmers, which caused uprisings in the streets, are now coming to Canada. Farmers will have to limit fertilizer use, perhaps cull livestock, and will suffer smaller yields which will drive up the price of food for the consumer while farmers suffer financial losses. It's starvation and economic collapse by design.
Joining me tonight to discuss the green war on cities, cars, farms, and humanity is Michelle Stirling from Friends of Science.

SHEILA GUNN REID | Tom Harris on whether Conservatives are ceding too much to the environmentalist left
July 20th, 2022 | 53 mins 48 secs
alberta, canada, conservative, culture, ezra levant, news, politics, pop culture, rebel, trudeau, trump
Are Conservatives conceding too much territory to the environmentalist left when they adopt their language to discuss climate change?
The city council in the most conservative place in the country, Calgary, under the direction of new progressive mayor Jyoti Gondek, has just adopted a net-zero climate scheme that will cost the next two generations of Calgary residents 87 billion dollars to implement fully. The plan stems from an earlier, non-binding resolution to declare a climate emergency in Cowtown.
Something similar happened on a federal level a few years. Conservative leader Andrew Scheer whipped his caucus to agree to a non-binding motion to support the United Nation's climate change agreement. It was very soon that the targets in that agreement were written into a trade agreement with the EU, CETA. And the vote by the Conservatives to support the Liberal motion has been used by the Liberals as a cudgel against any Conservative that dares to differ on the issue of climate change ever since.
This is why even conceding language, phrases to the left and agreeing to non-binding virtue signalling announcements is a bad idea that leads to worse ones.
My guest tonight recently penned an op-ed in the National Post chiding the Conservatives for adopting Liberal talking points and suggesting that Conservatives must seize the opportunity of their leadership election to reset their communication strategy on climate change.
But will they? Or are they too scared of CBC to do what they know the grassroots want?
Joining me tonight to discuss this issue and the farmer's rebellion in the Netherlands is Tom Harris from the International Climate Science Coalition Canada.

SHEILA GUNN REID | Cory Morgan on Calgary's $87B climate plan and the CPC leadership race
July 13th, 2022 | 26 mins 11 secs
alberta, canada, conservative, culture, ezra levant, news, politics, pop culture, rebel, trudeau, trump
The City of Calgary just passed an $87 billion climate plan.
The net-zero plan will extend through to 2050 and will set the Calgary taxpayer back $3.1 billion annually.
City councillors voted 9-6 in favour of the scheme. Councillors Sean Chu, Sonya Sharp, Andre Chabot, Richard Pootmans, Jennifer Wyness and Dan McLean were opposed. The strategy mandates that all city vehicles must be zero emissions by 2050, and aims to have all buildings in Calgary with a net-zero standard by the same year.
The burden for Calgary taxpayers will be enormous and it flows directly from the city's so-called climate emergency declaration which was sold as non-binding but is now being used as justification for the crushing green scheme debt.
All this is happening in front of the backdrop of the greatest outdoor show on Earth, the Calgary Stampede. The rodeo brings in politicians angling for votes. The United Conservative leadership contestants were in town, as well as the Conservatives angling to replace Erin O'Toole in the top spot. The Prime Minister was also in town to flip pancakes, and he was, according to the mainstream media but in contrast to reality, "mobbed" by "throngs" of fans.
Cory Morgan from the Western Standard joins me tonight to break down the news from Cow Town and debrief us on the debate/fireside chat with CPC leadership hopefuls hosted by Western Standard earlier in the week.
